My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners that come from many different backgrounds. I have students that speak two languages, including Spanish and Arabic. Many of my students face difficulties in their home lives and don't have the appropriate literacy and reading materials. Yet, they try to do their best at home with the tools and resources available from the school.

Inspiring literacy and the love of reading is a goal I have for my students.

I want to enhance my students' development of literacy by giving them shared reading opportunities and experiences with their families in their home environment. That is an important place for literacy related interactions and activities to occur while students are not in the school setting.

My Project

As a kindergarten teacher, I am so lucky to be able to read a variety of stories to my students daily. Reading is such an important activity that parents can do with their students at home as well. However, most of my students do not have their own books at home to read or the resources to dig deeper into the stories.

My kindergarten students will be given the opportunity to take books home and have shared reading experiences with their families.

Each student will have their own sturdy cloth book bag, choose a book from the take home book library that excites them, and complete activities to strengthen their understanding of the book. The activities created by The Colorful Apple and sold on Teachers Pay Teachers provide reading tips for parents as well as engaging activities for the students to complete after their shared reading time. There is no time like the present for students to build on their reading skills while at home during distance learning using exciting new books and activities!
