My Students

I currently teach 6th grade Math and Science at a Math, Science, Technology Magnet located in CA. I have over 160 students in four classes that range from the highly gifted to ESL students. My students are highly motivated learners and they desire to manipulate the latest technology to enhance the learning process. The way my students learn best is whenever we incorporate any form of technology within our lessons. They are independent learners, but have a passion working on group projects with their fellow peers. They learn best collaborating and researching to find the information themselves. Now with the Common Core National Standards being incorporated, we now have even a greater need for more technology in the classroom. This new technology will better prepare them for not only the new assessments approaching, but in the new way of learning the standards.

My Project

I am requesting 2 Chromebooks which will just be the beginning of our classroom technology lab. By having the chromebooks in the classroom, the students will have access to unlimited amounts of information and resources beyond what any traditional textbook could provide them. In addition to the Internet, my students will be using a program called Accelerated Math which is an Internet based math program that brings personalized practice to life. The program promotes a differentiated math program, that encourages students to want to practice math for enjoyment. They will also utilize a program called IXL. This is a math program that allows students to practice math skills online and instantly get scores and feedback to encourage their success. The students will have access to unlimited apps that will reinforce the Common Core Standards and allow independent-based research of their interest.

Bringing innovated technology into the classroom will open the world at my students' fingertips.

It will motivate and encourage them to produce above and beyond the assignments. The most important goals I have for my students are that they become 21st century learners, critical thinkers and career ready. Anytime the students use any form of technology to broaden their knowledge, is truly an amazing learning experience.
