Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Project Overview:

This grant proposal seeks funding for the purchase of mini dry-erase boards, markers, and reporter notebooks to enhance the learning experience in our high school journalism class.

These tools will provide students with hands-on, interactive ways to organize their thoughts, brainstorm story ideas, take notes during interviews, and improve their writing and reporting skills. By incorporating these resources into daily classroom activities, we aim to foster creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication, all of which are essential skills for aspiring journalists.

Our objectives are to encourage active learning, collaboration, and organization through the use of mini dry-erase boards and markers.

We'd like to improve students’ ability to capture and organize information quickly and effectively with reporter notebooks as well as to develop stronger note-taking, writing, and editing skills, preparing students for both in-class assignments and real-world journalism experiences.

To provide a more engaging and hands-on learning environment that helps students master the fundamental skills of journalism.

Needs Assessment:

In today’s fast-paced, information-driven world, students need to develop critical thinking and writing skills that can be applied in real-world situations. Journalism education, in particular, demands the ability to organize ideas clearly, take detailed notes during interviews, and write concise and compelling stories. However, our current classroom lacks adequate resources for these activities, and many students struggle with organizing their thoughts and expressing them effectively.

Mini dry-erase boards, markers, and reporter notebooks are essential tools that will help address these challenges. The dry-erase boards will allow students to quickly visualize and organize their ideas in real time, making the writing process more efficient and effective. Reporter notebooks will provide students with an organized space to take notes during interviews and research, mimicking real-world journalism practices.
