My Students

The Bridge Builders are part of an urban/suburban community in Whitestone, New York. Our school serves approximately 600 students who come from a plethora of different backgrounds and home environments.

As the students are all engaged in some form of remote learning this year, access to reliable devices to support our children's learning is crucial.

My goal this year is to ensure that all students are able to participate in remote and blended learning with their devices. Teachers need document cameras to be able to teach across content areas, but specifically mathematics and writing. Our younger students require the document camera to see their teachers writing and modeling for them. With the complex math problems, students need to be able to see their teacher model for them to replicate the criteria expected of them. One thing remains in common with all of my students - they are highly motivated and take ownership of their learning as problem solvers and critical thinkers.

My Project

As a New York City teacher, many of our students are either learning fully remote or are bouncing back and forth between remote and in-person instruction. With these transitions happening rapidly, teachers in my school building need quick access to portable document cameras that can move with them both in the classroom and at home while teaching remotely.

The document cameras serve many purposes in both the remote and in-person classroom.

Teachers use the document cameras to project pages out of a read-aloud book, solutions to math algorithms in real-time, art demonstrations, writing samples, and more! They are crucial to modeling for all students because it gives them a direct lens into what the teacher is seeing and doing.

With our funding cut tight this year, teachers are struggling to be able to provide this resource for their students. As a fully remote teacher, this would enhance my instruction a tenth fold.
