My Students

While I do have a full time classroom, this project reaches a much wider population in my school. I run a before school program to introduce students to the Sphero, a small robot in the shape of a sphere.

The students participating in this the Sphero program come from various backgrounds.

They sign up for the a six week program, where I can accommodate twenty students at a time. I have noticed a large proportion of these students seem to be boys with behavior issues in class, and often learning problems as well. These problems can eliminate them from the gifted and talented pull out program during school, where robotics are available. I have also noticed, however, that most of these kids are able to remain focused during Sphero time, grasp programming techniques quickly and even experiment and teach me new things.

This year I want to expand my Sphero Accademy to include a Sphero Club, for students who have mastered the basic programming of the Sphero. I am excited to give these students new challenges and a chance to explore their programming skills in a fun and exciting way.

My Project

I am creating a Sphero Club for students in my school. These will be students in grades 3 - 6 who have already taken my Sphero Academy and learned basic programming skills for Sphero. These are before school programs and are open to student who wish to participate.

I would like to use these materials to help students create more complex commands and learn more of the programming available for this little robot.

The materials will be used to create tasks that will go beyond the basics. By the end of the 6 weeks, students will create tasks for each other to solve.
