My Students

Our English learners hail from across the globe. We represent a huge diversity of languages and backgrounds, from Mexico and Guatemala, to small towns in western Africa and Thailand, to Baghdad and Caracas.

In our English Language Learning classroom, we focus on equipping the next generation of leaders with the literacy and language skills they need to change the world!

We speak over 20 languages (and for some of us, English is our second or third!). While some students have received a top-notch international education in another language, others come to us from refugee camps or catching up after years of interrupted formal schooling.

Our EL class works together to develop our communication skills from basic conversations to crafting high school-ready essays.

My Project

English learners in our classes practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. We do intensive explorations of academic texts, write our own paragraphs, poems and essays, and engage in scaffolded group work that builds our literacy and communication skills.

Literacy today means more than just reading and writing on paper - our English learners need to be able to understand and CREATE other forms of media too!

These headsets have quality microphones that will allow us to create poems, videos, and multi-media presentations in a much wider variety of formats, so that our EL class remains fun, challenging, and relevant to students' lives.

The sound-cancelling headphones make it possible for students to comprehend English audio - and feel confident and focused when they record their own voice in a room full of middle school peers!

It's a really special feeling to hear your own voice grow stronger, especially in middle school. It's not just about English speaking practice: it's about becoming more skilled and confident communicators. We can't wait to get started!
