Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As teachers in a high poverty/low income school, our students face multiple challenges and obstacles on a daily basis. Many of them come from single-parent households, and based on their socioeconomic status, everyone receives free breakfast and lunch. In addition to everything they face every day, they still have to learn English to communicate and be successful in school.

Despite all of these challenges, our students still come to school every day with a positive, ready-to-learn attitude.

As ESOL teachers, one thing that we can do to make our students' lives easier is to help them to close the achievement gap and improve their English language proficiency.

My Project

We are requesting headsets with microphones so that our students can experience auditory and oral language. They will have the opportunity to hear sounds of letters, words, rhymes and patterns. They will be able to use computers and technology to explore all the facets of language, which will in turn foster second language acquisition.

My students need to have many opportunities to use all four language domains, since most of them are English Language Learners.

By listening and speaking in English, students will be exposed to lots of new words that they haven't heard before. Through this exposure, they can begin to read and write the words on the paper.
