This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at an urban public school teaching 7th and 8th Spanish to heritage speakers. Most of my students are English Language Learners who get very excited about learning through novels. My school is in a high poverty area, and most students cannot afford to buy their own books.

This donation will be used to purchase novels to improve their reading comprehension, develop their language skills, and instill a love of good literature.

My Project

My students are English Language Learners who get excited about reading novels. They cannot afford to purchase their own but feel such a sense of pride when they have personal copies. This allows them to read at their own pace, annotate, and refer back to the book when needed.

Seeing my students' eyes light up as we read from chapter to chapter and the way they connect with the characters makes our novel study rewarding.

I feel as though I am showing my students the importance of reading and developing lifelong readers.
