This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my role as ELPT (English Language Program Teacher) at my school, I have many different responsibilities but one of the most important is working to support students who are new to our country. At my school we refer to these students as newcomers since they have recently arrived to the United States and do not speak English. Many of these students are coming from areas such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and Ecuador. This school year, unlike most others, we have seen a huge influx of newcomers in grades PreK to 8th. As the ELPT, I am always searching for teaching resources that can meet the unique needs of the students my colleagues and me work to support.

Through this project, the English Language Learners at my school in grades PreK to 8 will have access to high quality learning resources that will aid in their English language acquisition.

I have selected high quality resources from Lakeshore Learning that come as complete kits focusing on vocabulary and language develop in the areas of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. These resources will be valuable in all grades PreK to 8th grade since our newcomer students typically have very limited English language skills and start with foundational language acquisition skills. With your help I can provide support to our new students who are working hard to adapt to their new life here in the United States.
