Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are within the most diverse schools in California and in the country. I have students of cultures from every part of the world and speak different languages.

The students that will benefit from this project represent an after school club called "Students in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)".

This club participates in a competition to build a hydrogen-fueled remote control car and promotes sustainable practices in the school and the community.

Several of the members of this club face a difficult economic situation at home, so they do not have the capacity to pay for transportation to especial events or materials. Some of them even need to work on weekends to help their family's economy. Despite the challenges that they face, they are eager to learn about how technology affects our life and how we can improve it to serve us better.

My Project

Our school members in the club "Students in STEM" are enrolling in a competition to design, build and race a hydrogen-fueled remote-controlled car. In last year's competition, we were limited by inexperience and lack of resources. This year, we feel that we have the experience, but we continue to need support with the materials. The project allows the students to make as many modifications as they desire in order to make the car faster, more efficient, and most importantly, representative of themselves and their school. To support these ambitious efforts, our team is need of numerous tools and materials, including screwdrivers, pliers, drill, paint, solder, PETG plastic, etc.

This project has proven to be an excellent opportunity for the students to experience solving a complex engineering challenge as a team within a limited time frame, much like the issues we will need their help solving in the very near future.

In it, they learn soft skills like communication, collaboration, organization, and planning. They also acquire the "hard", more hands-on skills such as soldering and using tools. The students learn about physics, environmental science, history, design, and even business (funding, resources, timelines).

Thank you in advance for your continued support for our young, bright future.
