Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher who is teaching 31 first grade students at a Title I school. Many students come from a low income household with limited resources. As a teacher I strive to provide them with the most educationally rich resources. My students come to school eager to learn on a daily basis. With budget cuts happening yearly it becomes difficult and costly to keep student resources new for the students to use. With your help we can make this possible.

My Project

Our school has recently become a STEM magnet school. Last year and part of this year we have had a STEM residency coming into our classroom for one period ever Monday. My first graders enjoyed very much using LEGOs to create various things with the team that would come. The program with them did not run all year and my students were sad to see them go. I would watch their faces light up with excitement when they would walk through the door because it was during this time they got to build with LEGOs and use their creativity, critical thinking and imaginations. Students will be using the LEGOs in order to build building structure and bridges and the possibilities are endless. I am hoping I can bring those smiles back through the funding of this project.
