My Students

I teach in an ICT class at a Title I, elementary school where the majority of my students are English Language Learners. Most of these students immigrated from China and come from a low-income household. At home they might not always have the additional help they need to help enhance their academic needs. Most of the students love coming to school and never miss a day because they find comfort in learning.

Unfortunately, my students have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, where they're unable to come to their safe classroom to continue enhancing their education.

Many of the children are at home trying to learn virtually, but their parents are not always able to help them because of the language barrier. Since parents do not speak English not only are they not able to help their children with lessons but also with technical difficulties. Most of them have other siblings who the parents might have to help first. To continue effective learning we are using ClassDojo and Google Meets. I use Google Meets for live teaching and to check on my students for Social Emotional Learning.

My Project

The way that an Apple iPad will help me teach from home is I will be able to meet virtually with my students for whole class, small group and individual conferences. Not only will I be able to explain lessons better but this will help my students with Social Emotional Learning.

Since many of my students are of special needs I will be able to differentiate lessons by creating worksheets and color enhanced lessons for visual support.

By using the Apple Pencil I will be able to write individual comments on student work instead of making a general comment. This will help my students and their parents understand what they need to work on and what they have excelled in.
