My Students

Math practice can be tedious! In my problem-solving based math classroom where excitement is the key to learning, necessary repetitive practice gets pretty boring. These tools and supplies will help boost motivation and excitement for learning!

In my combined first and second grade classroom, the students are eager to learn!

In our low income classroom, I have 15 first graders and 8 second graders of varying income levels, ability levels, languages, and ethnicities. I have students who excel and students who struggle, but they all love to learn!

My Project

In a classroom with multiple grade levels and multiple abilities at each grade level, it can be difficult to provide targeted instruction to each student for their individual needs. To try to accommodate for this need for targeted instruction, we spend a lot of time working in small groups and doing independent work. Rekenreks, white boards, clipboards, a visual timer, a number line for practice activities, math games, and an iPad storage station will help to make our small group instruction time as well as our independent time more interesting and engaging for all of my students.

My students like to share their ideas, work together, and learn through play.

All of the items I am requesting with this project will help to facilitate this type of learning, especially when children are working independently and in small groups. If students are engaged in their independent work, then I can spend more time focused on the small groups I'm working with and less time on behavior management!
