My Students

I work with about 15 students with social emotional disabilities in a general ed setting. They are 7th and 8th graders with a range of academic and social abilities and needs.

Our inspiration station could be so much more.

We have ferns, our fish Saphire, Floam, mind puzzles, and fancy coloring books, but they're becoming a little stale. We're trying to accumulate diverse materials our diverse students can choose from to engage their bodies while they engage their minds.

My Project

My students are in a general education school, but are in a program for students with social emotional disabilities. This is the only type of program in our school system servicing students who are academically diverse to the extent of being non-readers to above grade level. In addition, behaviorally, our students may be able to work themselves into the partial or full-inclusion setting, or they may need to be out placed at an alternative setting. These materials, such as the alpha better stand up desk with swinging footrest and the bean bag chair, will allow us to offer more diverse seating. All the fidget materials, such as the shape shifters, kick bands bouncy chair fidget bands, sensory balls, and foam modeling material, will be used to offer different types of stimulation or calming materials as students need. Some, like the weighted pillows, are items students have requested that may indeed help them or future students. We'd like to offer as many options as we can to help our students achieve success in the regular school setting.
