Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students follow the Kids at Hope philosophy. They are learning and believing that they are talented, smart and capable of success. Their newfound confidence and prior academic gains are, however, becoming hampered by the ongoing Covid crisis which continues to shape our school experience. Despite the uncertainties, we continually strive for an increase in academic achievement through improved student engagement. The more students are engaged in their learning, the more they are intrinsically motivated and learn.

My students are a resilient group of fourth and fifth graders who are learning remotely from home.

Families are doing their best to support learners at home, while teachers continue to adapt and adjust to meet students needs.

While each of my students wants to learn and connect with their peers, remote learning has posed certain challenges, especially for students with special needs who struggle academically. Some of my students have learning disabilities or speech and language impairments which makes acquiring and/or processing new information difficult. Effectively engaging these students during remote learning requires a variety of strategies to bring learning to life and enable all students to access the curriculum.

I value the opportunity to teach this remarkable group of students.

My Project

As a Special Education teacher it is crucial to find and adapt resources that will help assist students, who often struggle academically, to engage with grade level curriculum. TPT and Nearpod offers a wide variety of digitized teaching and learning materials created by fellow educators. Use of TPT resources within the remote learning classroom will help students navigate key learning objectives as students find the materials to be visually appealing and easy to use.

A document camera would enhance synchronous remote lessons and students learning by allowing students to follow along and visualize the thought process and steps necessary to solve multi-step word problems in mathematics as well as annotate text for key information.

The document camera further enhances the remote learning experience as it can be used to record demonstrations for asynchronous lessons and activities. These recordings can be used by students, at their own pace, to reinforce instruction and improve comprehension. The dry erase boards will allow students to model their solutions during math lessons and activities.
