Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a diverse Title I high school located in New York, housed within a campus of many other schools.

We are one of a handful of public high schools in NYC that only admit recent immigrants; many of our students enter the ninth grade just a few days or weeks after first moving to the U.S.

Our students come from over thirty countries around the world -- Yemen, Honduras, Tibet, China, the Ivory Coast, and Haiti, to name a few. They also speak well over thirty different languages, all at different levels of English language proficiency. All of our students learn English through their content courses such as math, science, literature, social studies, dance, and art. They work together collaboratively to help one another with both their language skills and their understanding of life in this new country.

My Project

I have been searching for a way to jump start my students’ understanding of electricity in the world around them. The donation of Arduino kits and programmable LED lights will help my students get a hands-on experience with the exciting world of electricity.

My project for Arduino kits and programmable LED lights will allow them to be creative while learning about programming, circuits, engineering, and design process.

The Arduino kit and programmable LEDs allow my students to learn by doing. Working with Arduino kits is a great way to teach perseverance and the lesson that when you are not successful in completing a task you have not failed - you have merely found a learning opportunity.
