Engaging Remote Learners With a Document Camera and Mindfulness Activities

Help me give my students a document camera to help me model and teach from at home. We also need some mindfulness activities to help us with our morning meetings where we focus on social emotional learning.

My Students

I teach third grade students in a remote classroom setting. My students come from families who are new to the country. Some of my students require special services. My students come from varied backgrounds with different economic needs. My students are very bright and they seek enrichment activities. Currently we are working in a remote setting and we require materials to help us learn more easily.

Teaching and l earning at home is challenging and we need materials to keep kids engaged!

Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.

My Project

With the assistance of a document camera I can model qualities of good writing and present it in real time to my students. I will also be able to model how to use manipulatives and other math strategies to problem solve in math. The document camera will also be useful during read aloud and to model referring to the text for text evidence to build on ideas. I can also use it for science experiment demonstrations.

I would love to have some new ideas for our morning meetings each day to support the emotional well being of my students.

Mindfulness activities will help me start the day on a positive note. These activities can also be used throughout the day when the kids seem to be losing engagement, focus, and stamina to get them through the day.
