Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school works hard to ensure that students enter their doors with welcoming arms and leave with knowledge of their strengths, worth, and potential. One of the most valuable things about my classroom is its diversity of learners. I serve students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. This school year will start differently than most, but I can't wait to meet my new 8th grade students.

My Project

This past year, Reading teachers at Marsh saw that students engaged more with the text when they had a personal copy to take home and study. I want to continue to provide students with copies of our novel studies this year so students can begin to build their personal libraries.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's experiences and cartoon drawings that reflect the character's art, tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation.

In reading this, we hope that students will explore identity, traditions, relationships, and the impact of their choices. I am excited for students to engage with this text and hope you will consider donating!
