Help Mrs. Newman

My Students

How can we get students to become thinking, engaged members of society? How can we get them to read and understand nonfiction text that prepares them for an educated, productive life? With engaging, relevant nonfiction, of course!

We are a Title One school where the majority of our students receive free and reduced lunch.

My students are excited and eager to learn, but often lack the background knowledge and skills that allow them to excel in the classroom environment. My students need materials and lessons that are relevant to their lives so that they can learn while having fun!

My Project

My students will use Scholastic News to reinforce literacy, science, math and social studies concepts. They will use them individually, in centers and groups, and as a whole class. In addition, students will be able to take home the issue and share with their families.

Scholastic News will make a difference with my students by giving them reading materials that are engaging and relevant to their lives.

They are interesting and encourage student reading, even for students who normally "don't like" to read. They reinforce and connect all areas of the curriculum and improve test scores, as well.
