This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a Title I school, with 77.2% of our students coming from low-income backgrounds. My classroom is diverse, including both general education and special education students, each bringing unique strengths, challenges, and perspectives that enrich our learning community. My students are vibrant, imaginative, and eager to explore new ideas through hands-on, experiential learning that fuels their curiosity. Dramatic play fosters creativity, social-emotional growth, and problem-solving skills, providing children with opportunities to explore real-world experiences in a supportive environment.

“When children pretend, they’re not just playing.

They’re creating possibilities.” – Daniel J. Siegel. Dramatic play is a key part of our classroom, allowing students to take on different roles, develop social skills, and express creativity through hands-on activities. I am requesting Melissa & Doug pretend play toys—such as pretend food, kitchen sets, and themed props—to create a more immersive dramatic play space. These materials will encourage role-playing experiences that enhance language development, teamwork, and critical thinking. Whether pretending to be doctors, chefs, or astronauts, students will strengthen communication skills while fostering creativity and collaboration.

Through imaginative play, students engage in real-world applications, practicing essential life skills such as negotiation, cooperation, and decision-making. Dramatic play encourages problem-solving, self-expression, and confidence while helping students navigate social interactions effectively. My goal is to create an interactive learning environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and social-emotional growth. By role-playing and working together, students will develop critical thinking and leadership skills that extend beyond the classroom.

This project will provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare students for future academic and social success. By empowering them to explore, collaborate, and engage in real-world problem-solving, we will help them grow as learners while having fun and building essential foundational skills.
