My Students

My kindergarten classroom is full of energetic and active learners. They love to work on the floor, standing up and even laying on their stomachs. They love to jump, sing, play and dance. Their abilities and needs range from just learning the English language to reading simple books.

My students are eager, energetic and very curious to learn about the world around them!

For many of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience. They are like sponges that just love to learn new things every day.

My Project

Every day, my students rotate through various stations during math workshop. They receive small group math instruction and then practice those skills and strategies independently in centers. This is always a fun time in our classroom as they play math games and learn new skills!

By the end of the year, my students are expected to have a strong foundation in number sense so they can add and subtract fluently within 10.

One essential component of helping my students achieve this goal is to ensure that they have high quality math centers to use during math workshop. This project is requesting a variety of math games and centers focusing on different skills and strategies. The "Unlock It! Number Match" is a fun hands on math activity using locks and keys. Students will have to match the number of objects on the lock with the correct numeral on the key. If the key opens the lock then they know they were correct! The "Build-A-Number House" activity is a hands on center which will allow my students to count and visualize quantities to 10! My students will count gumballs, combine shapes, measure flowers and more with the "Light up Math Activity Centers." This activity center develops skills in numbers, counting, geometry and measurement. This project contains many math games which will give my students the opportunity to practice counting, writing numerals, comparing numbers and adding and subtracting which are all skills that are critical for my students to master in their kindergarten year.

My students will be very engaged using these math games and centers during math workshop which will help build the foundation to be ready for first grade!
