I teach in a rural school that is filled with high-need, low-income students. One third of the students in my class are reading at or below the 20th percentile for the nation.

Keeping these students engaged in literacy is a challenge. Many of them struggle to succeed in this area and need interesting and enticing materials to motivate them to persevere. Because reading and writing is fundamental to all subject areas, it is imperative that these students succeed now in order to become successful and productive citizens.

Providing my class with the storytelling kits that I have requested will engage the whole class in not only the reading of the literature, but also the props that will "bring these stories to life". By participating in the storytelling, the students will gain important comprehension skills while having fun.

By supporting my project, you will be helping my students learn that reading is enjoyable and something to look forward to. You will help instill a love for literacy that will allow these children to reach their full potential. Having the supplies to make learning fun can make a huge difference in the lives of these young learners. Thank you for your support.
