This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every morning my students come into the classroom excited and ready to learn. They love to read but struggle with the vocabulary and literacy skills needed to fully comprehend the text. I want to provide my students with engaging activities that keep them motivated, yet challenge them academically.
I teach fifth grade in a low income school.
We have a high population of ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages), LD (Learning Disabled) self-contained, and resource students. Many of my students are working below grade-level, which requires differentiated instruction and individualized interventions. I have students who have the desire to read but not the materials. Many times my students come to me with very little reading experience, outside of school.
My Project
My students need Reading Comprehension Games, Vocabulary Building Games, a Crack the Case! Inferencing Center, and Reading and Writing Skills Folder Games. The use of language arts games will enable my students to learn the skills needed to be successful in reading and language. They will be able to use these language arts games during our reading workshop time to supplement the instruction I am teaching in small groups. The support these activities will provide my students will assist in strengthening their reading fluency and comprehension. Overall, these activities will help my students in their quest to become stronger readers.
This project will provide my students with differentiated learning activities that support our reading curriculum.
This project can help my students become skilled readers. The knowledge they will gain from these language arts games will aid them not only this year but for the rest of their lives! Just think of the impact your donation will make on these young learners!
