My Students

I teach in a Philadelphia public school situated in the heart of the city. Our school serves about 600 neighborhood children from kindergarten through fourth grade. Ours is a Title I school where our children qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Many of our children have not been regularly exposed to reading experiences prior to school. Some have undergone trauma or have faced challenges in their lives which overshadow the focus on those skills required to set them up for academic success. This, coupled with the new challenges of remote learning have heightened the role of technology in academic achievement.

These unprecedented times have made me keenly aware of the efficiency with which each moment of virtual instruction must be delivered.

In this virtual learning world, much remains the same: we are teaching reading, math, science, social studies. However, there is a great deal of difference in the way in which we can present information and truly sustain focus. Herein lies the key. Virtual learning can be successful if we acknowledge the ways in which we must engage our students and capture their attention.

My Project

With an iPad, I will be able to see my students during group activities where I am sharing my screen. Additionally, I will be able to use it as a whiteboard that my children can actually see. It will serve as a whiteboard as well as an additional monitor during our virtual learning experiences. I've purchase a variety of other material which are not as efficient as I'd hoped as they are hard to see. If you knew my children, you'd know I will stop at nothing to support their progress. But, in this way, I'm asking for your help. Believe me- they are so worth it!
