My Students

The students in my classes are a diverse group, from a multitude of backgrounds. Some are from families where they will be the first to attend college, while others are from families where paying the monthly bills is a challenge.

All students deserve an opportunity to create skills that they can take with them into the work force or to college.

They are eager for life skills that can help them, as they finish high school and move forward in their lives.

My Project

My students are in need of more nonfiction texts for our classroom library. We would like to use these texts as evidence for classroom conversations. By building background knowledge with vocabulary flashcards, hopefully, students will be able to engage in more academic Socratic seminars in the classroom.

Academic conversations are a skill that is necessary for college, career, and life.

With a set of text and by building academic vocabulary students will be better prepared to engage with each other around a text or idea. Hopefully, the students will build better writing through the use of writing texts and the conversations that will occur with the texts as evidence.
