Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project connects students to the rich tapestry of Hispanic Heritage celebrations, allowing them to explore various cultural practices such as Día de los Muertos, Carnaval, and other festivals. By engaging with these traditions, students will understand the significance of cultural expressions and their impact on community identity. They will also explore how these celebrations are relevant in today's multicultural society and the importance of inclusion and representation.

Students will dive deep into the history and significance of various Hispanic Heritage celebrations.

They will research notable figures, such as artists like Picasso and cultural practices associated with different countries. Inquiry will encourage students to ask questions about cultural representation in art, the meaning behind symbols used in celebrations, and how these practices can foster understanding and respect among diverse communities.

Students will have the freedom to choose which aspects of Hispanic Heritage they wish to explore, whether focusing on art, traditions, or language. They will decide how to present their findings, whether through a creative project like bracelet making with positive adjectives, creating a watercolor piece inspired by Picasso, constructing flower garlands for Carnaval, or crafting a piñata for Día de los Muertos. This choice empowers them to connect personally with the material and express their learning creatively.

Throughout the project, students will engage in regular journaling to reflect on their learning experiences, discoveries, and personal growth. They will assess how their understanding of Hispanic cultures evolves and what new perspectives they gain. Reflection prompts will guide them to consider how their projects relate to their own identities and communities.
