Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are from many different backgrounds. Each of them has different needs in order to learn, in my opinion, the most comprehensive and interesting curriculum...science! They love having a guinea pig as their classroom pet. It has helped with building connections, classroom management, and responsibility.

My students love learning with hands-on experiences, labs, and experiments.

Many of my students do not have a pet at home. Having a guinea pig gives them that sense of community and responsibility. I want to engage my middle school students with what we are learning and make it come to life for them. Being a pre-teen and teenager is a difficult time in their lives. I want my classroom to be a safe haven where they come to learn, have fun and become life-long learners.

My Project

My students are highly engaged with creative lessons. With these dry erase markers they will be able to draw on our lab tables. They can use them to make Punnett square with another student. They could also use them to make graphic organizers, such as Venn diagrams, to demonstrate what they have learned.

One of the lessons they are looking forward to is making stop animation movies with these markers.

I can't wait to experiment with how to use these to review for our state exams. It is amazing how a simple tool can help students feel confident about completing their work.
