Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The eighth grade at my school is made up of students with special needs, gifted students and English language learners.
My eighth grade is full of vibrant, excited learners ready for a new challenge each and every day!
My building is a Pre K-Eighth grade school, and in every grade and we develop a strong classroom community to support one another.
My students all come from lower income families that struggle each day to make ends meet. Many of these children face poverty and violence on a daily basis that is well beyond what most of us could imagine. Yet, my students do their best to learn. I try my best to give my students a good education and an introduction to the American way of life, but with limited resources there are many things that others consider basic parts of education that I cannot provide without assistance. My school is very limited in the funds that teachers receive for supplies. Teachers go forward and buy their own supplies to help their students have a successful school year.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place my students really enjoy, when we return to normal following the pandemic I look forward to helping them sign out their favorites. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, I have watched them for two years and what they choose to read in their free time and have asked them what types of books they'd like to read in the future. My students will be able to choose books which will continue to help them enjoy independent reading.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of graphic novels that will allow them to stay engaged with their independent reading.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. the best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students have already shown an interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the written word.
