Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students come form all over the world. I have students from all parts of Latin America, the Caribbean, different parts of Asia, and Europe. They come with a diverse educational background and educational needs.
My students come to my classroom with rich linguistic practices, some of them ranging in several languages.
They come to my class to get English support. They are learning the same concepts as their classmates, the material is only made accessible to their English proficiency level. ESOL students are often not provided with material necessary to give them both a rich educational experience and English learning instruction.
My Project
Small reading groups is an essential part of my class. This allows me to focus more on the specific language and content needs of the students. The DK Readers series are leveled, which allows me to pick books that are more suited to different students' reading abilities.
Most importantly, the DK series provided highly engaging non-fiction books.
It is particularly hard to find fun, non-fiction books for English learners that allow us to discuss interesting topics, pictures, and ideas. These are necessary, as they give English Learners a space to practice authentic academic language.
These book will give students fun content at a level that is comprehensible for their emerging reading level.
