A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Many of my students come from homes where parents work multiple jobs just to be able to provide basic needs. Many families have faced a multitude of trials and tribulations that our children should not have to think about at such a young age. The heart that these kids show on a daily basis makes me realize that it doesn't matter where anybody comes from, but it matters where they go from there.
The majority of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of my students come from broken homes and poverty. They have been exposed to many things that children should not have to witness. It is heartbreaking to know what some of them have been through, yet they come to school every day to try to learn. They look to me for comfort, nurturing and learning. Many of them live in poverty, where books are not on the menu because they are trying to find money for their next meal.
My Project
These materials provide students with additional opportunities to practice their reading, writing, and math skills. The current event articles in TIME For Kids provide engaging, high interest reads to get students motivated to practice and learn more. Students will be able to create story boards based on the articles they read.
The excitement and anticipation of a new article every week will give them something to look forward to.
The skills book will provide explicit instruction in informational writing skills. This will help the students get ready for the demands of fourth grade writing skills and test.
With so many demands on student performance, these articles will help alleviate the tedious reading, writing and math tasks that students are required to master. They will give students an opportunity to read things they are interested in and practice their skills in a new and fun way.
