This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach first grade in a low-income district in New York City. My students need materials and storage to be successful and organized.
Students in first grade come to school energetic and ready to learn!
They are eager to discover new things and try them out for themselves. By creating a welcoming environment, I can make sure that my students are set up for the best year possible from the very beginning. These students truly deserve all that they need to be successful.
My Project
So much time goes into prepping activities for students to complete during distance learning. It is very different from being in the classroom where materials from year to year are used again and again, saving teachers time. This year is unlike any other. We are spending countless hours (and money) prepping activities for students to complete online. While we are converting what we can from hard copies to digital, it is time-consuming. This time can be better spent creating engaging live lessons and meeting in small groups and 1:1, filling any gaps created by distance learning.
These activities will benefit our students by reinforcing skills taught during live instruction.
It also gives us the opportunity to easily differentiate activities for all of our students. They can practice new skills as well as fill the gaps in skills they are still working on.
