My Students

Preparing students for the world in which they live, and eventually will work, is extremely important.

Students need to learn how to become effective problem-solvers in real-world situations. Having access to technology is vital.

Our students have a strong desire to learn about the world we live in and love working on STEM projects. My science classroom is composed of diverse learners in a high-poverty area. My students are very enthusiastic about school and have a thirst for learning. They are curious, funny, caring, loving, and imaginative.

I use many different learning pathways to help them understand the content on a deeper level. All my students are unique and have many different strengths; however, when any one of them has a piece of technology in their hands, they immediately become more engaged in the activity.

My Project

Virtual reality can improve science education by providing students with memorable and immersive experiences that would otherwise not be possible. The Oculus Virtual Reality headset would be accessible to every student and can be easily monitored by teachers.

Virtual experiences have the power to engage and inspire students in a unique and powerful way.

There is a software, called vLUME, that was created by scientists at the University of Cambridge and 3D image analysis software company Lume VR Ltd. It allows super-resolution microscopy data to be visualized and analyzed in virtual reality and can be used to study everything from individual proteins to entire cells.

There are also programs that students can immerse themselves in such as in various ecosystems that explore regions of the world that they never dreamed of. This device can provide students with an opportunity to explore future careers such as in medicine. They can observe surgeries, and even see surgical procedures from a first-person perspective. VR truly places students ahead of the curve from a very early stage.
