My Project

100% of my students come from low-income households where food security can be an issue. It is my goal to provide a community pantry in my classroom filled with heart snacks that students will have access to. For the majority of my students, the school day is quite long as they have the typical school day followed by a two-hour after-school program designed to increase instructional time and help parents who do not have after-school care for their children. This means that after an 11:00 lunch, students are waiting six hours to eat at home and that is IF there is food for them to eat there. I want to be able to support my students with afternoon hunger issues by providing this pantry.
