My Students

I teach middle level students who are learning English as a new language. The majority come from the Philippines and various island nations of Micronesia. They need language support to be successful in their regular classes, as well as navigating their new environment.

I believe that language learners learn best through peer collaboration with hands-on, visual learning opportunities.

I aim to provide students a lot of opportunities to interact with the core content they are learning. I also strongly believe in arts-integration as a powerful tool for learning.

My Project

My students have a lot of energy, yet I expect them to come in, be calm, and work hard. They are constantly tipping in their chairs and have to physically turn their bodies to collaborate with others at the current rectangular tables.

I want my students to be comfortable and have the flexibility to easily move throughout the room to collaborate with others.

A round table will help the whole flow of my room work better - we'll be able to better navigate around the space. Wobble stools will help my energetic students move while they work without dangerously tipping in their chairs. This new furniture will help my classroom be a more welcoming and inviting space, thus allowing my students to be more creative and productive while they are with me.
