Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

First graders are full of excitement and energy and they truly benefit from a learning atmosphere in which they are comfortable and can move! I teach first grade in a very diverse area, both culturally and economically in the Bronx, NY. Most of the students receive free lunch and many are English Language Learners or have special needs. This flexible seating would accommodate their needs. I am excited to give them the opportunity to learn each day outside of being stuck behind a desk. Many of my students face challenges in their home life when they leave our classroom, so I would like to make their day as fun and least restrictive as possible! They have an open mind and they come in each day ready and eager to learn!

My Project

The old days of sitting behind a desk all day in school to learn are gone! Our children need to move and stretch out in order to learn today. Please help my diverse and energetic first graders to sprawl out. I truly feel this will benefit them and allow them to focus! Bean bag chairs, comfy seats, wobble cushions, and lap desks are all essential to learning today! The variety and brightness of colors will also help them by creating excitement and keep them awake! Children need choice and this will allow them to learn responsibility and give them options!
