Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face many challenges as they strive to read, spell, and write due to a misunderstood learning disability (dyslexia). As a Title I-funded school, many of our students are economically disadvantaged. In addition, some families are still dealing with unexpected hardships brought by COVID-19. COVID-19 had an academic impact on my dyslexic students by increasing their instruction gaps 12-18 month.

My students work hard to improve their literacy skills and as their dyslexia teacher, my goal is to make sure they are equipped with the necessary classroom tools and supplies to be successful.

I love helping my students who struggle reading by targeting phonological awareness, fluency, sight words, spelling and writing. Their learning disability also has an impact on reading comprehension, math problem-solving skills, and all subjects that relate to reading. I am delighted to work with such a dynamic group of learners and guide them towards achieving their academic goals.

My Project

My students will develop literacy skills, and use the requested Cricut Maker 3 Machine, vinyls, tools, beginner kit and paper to create products such as cards, stickers, and banners. My students need a Cricut machine, Cricut tools, card stock and multiple themes of Cricut cartridges to help them learn in a creative way. A Cricut is an amazing electronic cutting machine. Just as a printer that uses ink to print what you put on the computer screen, a Cricut will cut out the objects on its screen. This machine will allow the students to pick images, shapes, characters, letters etc. and cut them out. The possibilites are endless!

We will be able to create new literacy centers and provide the differentiation that is needed among my students.

I believe it will really help the students that need the hands-on experience, with actually manipulating things such as letters in a word. The more hands-on, the more memorable lessons help to make learning fun and exciting for not only the students this year, but for years to come. I believe active and concrete experience is the most powerful form of learning. The Cricut will enable these types of opportunities, and allow me to bring hands-on learning to life. The materials my students and I will create using this machine, will support the curriculum and promote growth in all areas of development. By providing information in a visual manner, I will be better equipped to support their developmental needs.
