Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Whether we look from A to Z or we glance from Z to A
We encounter words of all sorts each and every day.
My students come from as far away as Burma and as close as Mexico.
They’re developing their English language skills. There is much they have to know.
Like how to create sentences with subjects and predicates, both simple and complex.
So, there are countless words they need to learn, but my students I do not want to vex.
I desire to teach them what they should know in a fun and exciting way.
Therefore, I am asking you to join in our struggle with words right this very day.
Please help my 4th graders, 28 in all, excel with language, figurative and plain.
Together, we can make sure that a vast working body of English vocabulary is what they will gain.
All kinds of books, flashcards, games and a whole lot more
Will help my ESL students even up the score
With the puny-looking, but powerful prepositions and those vacillating verbs that sometimes don’t know how they want to behave (action or linking?!).
My students are bound to be victorious with vocabulary, something we all crave!
I teach 4th grade at an elementary school on Chicago’s northwest side, which serves a very high, low-income population. There are over 1,200 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 6. Over 72% of the student body is Latino with over one-third of the entire school being English Language Learners. Students at my school represent countries from all over the world, including Bosnia, Burma, Cambodia, Honduras, Korea, Mexico and Somalia.
Thank you for considering my proposal.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
