Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are currently working on their ecosystem unit. Students have been learning about human impacts to different ecosystems. They are finishing the unit with an endangered species project which includes several portions. First and foremost, students will have to create a proposal which entails facts about their endangered animal and come up with an action plan to mitigate their animal becoming extinct. This will then be created into a commercial or broadcast to inform the public and community about the impacts we as humans create and ways in which to stop it from continuing. This will then be shared via our school's social media and viewed on our stem wave day and steam night in which the community (parents, guardians, and surrounding businesses) is invited into the building. This will involve our whole school community by informing the other grade levels of the effects that we directly have on the environment and ways in which we can make a difference.

Students will use the clay provided in this project to create the animal and the environment that it resides in.

Students will present this along with their finished commercial or broadcast to inform but also request immediate change in accordance with their proposal so that our environments remain intact. Throughout this unit, students have been able to relate to the topics and have taken an interest in saving and helping out animals especially since many have their own pets. After students looked at the Mission: Protect Animals they realized that they would like to take this project further and submit ideas on the state level and send ideas to lawmakers and representatives.
