My Students

Every morning and during lunch, I open my art/tech room up to students to come and explore my Arduino kit, to build with cardboard and to talk about ideas they have. The sad part is, we don't have enough materials to engage enough kids.

My students come from all over Philadelphia.

Some travel over an hour to get to school each day. Our project-based high school supports students as independent thinkers and learners. We have a diverse population of creative and enthusiastic learners. We are also building a brand new school, with only 9th grade this year. We have the bare necessities (furniture) but are lacking in a lot of supplies and materials.

My Project

We are in the process of planning a makerspace for our school. We have been working hard to research materials and make connections in the local maker community. We have also been hard at work building a community of makers among the students so they can help us build the space. One of the skills we want to teach our students is prototyping and CAD skills so they can begin to put their ideas into action using a 3D printer.

Our students will benefit from this project by the technological and critical thinking skills they will develop.

They also will be able to see that the ideas they have can become a reality.
