My Project

Encouraging students with learning disabilities and IEPs to reach can be quite a challenge! This will be my first time teaching collaborative English 10 in many years, and I would love to give my students a classroom library that excites them in order to help encourage them to read for pleasure. Our students are tenth grade students who struggle with reading and comprehension and are very intimidated by the simple thought of reading. Their defense mechanism is to say they do not read or down right refuse to read.

A good selection of manga and graphic novels will go a long way in helping us create an interesting and exciting classroom library for our students with disabilities to explore books and try their hand at reading in a judgement free zone with the hopes of igniting a love of books and reading.

Since reading can be intimidating for students with disabilities, creating a classroom library where they can be comfortable with a book goes a long way toward encouraging them to read.

My goal is to show them that there is a whole world of reading material they can read to help build their reading skills and hopefully instill a love of reading.
