Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Representation is important for kids because it shows them that their goals are attainable. The books I've chosen are a way for my students to learn more about tolerance, feelings and help build their self-love. I have chosen books to give my students positive role models. The characters in the books look like my students and can relate to their personal experiences while teaching them how to overcome many challenges.

My students benefit from a lot of encouragement and have set high expectations for themselves.

My students are not always sure how to attain these goals so the books I've chosen are a way to encourage them to keep growing and be persistent in their pursuit of success. For my elementary students I have chosen books that will promote self-love and acceptance of others. I want my students to know they can be fearless in their educational and life journey without being ashamed of who they are.

I have also included snacks because students have expressed a need. I want to be able to provide as much support as possible to my students. If my students come to school worried less about a need being met then they can focus more on their learning experience.
