My Project

Too many students these days dread reading on their own. They do not find joy or solace in picking up a book to stimulate their minds. Rather, they prefer to scroll on social media and often listen to the same stories they could be reading about! My goal with this project is to gather books for students that they will enjoy reading.

This year, I am in charge of my school's 8th grade library program, where students will be reading for pleasure, responding to reading journal prompts, writing book reviews, and -- hopefully -- gaining a joy for reading!

By asking students what books they are interested in, I aim to pique their curiosity in reading. With these materials we can continue the process of encouraging life-long readers, aiding to push students into reading, not only in school, but at home as well! Students do their best work when they feel they're in control and have a choice. With this project, students are requesting book genres and titles, and we are giving them that choice!
