My Students

My students are amazing! They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends. Together we imagine new possibilities for our community, our country, and the world.

At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.

My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the United States. The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language.

My students are the engineers, pilots, dentists, poets, and architects of the future. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.

My Project

I am requesting graphic novels in Spanish, including Dog Man and the Sofia Martinez series. We read every day. Staying excited about reading takes books! We have already discussed using the library as a resource, but our class has a great desire to access books right in the classroom. As the classroom teacher, I want to provide students access to books that are diverse and engaging. My students will love to read these high-interest books in Spanish, books about Somali culture, and books featuring diverse characters.
