I am excited to be a teacher in the heart of the valleys of North Carolina. We are a Title One school with a wonderfully diverse group of children. One of our greatest challenges comes in the area of writing as these children have many hurdles and challenges. In teaching, these experiences are also something we come across as professionals. In the past few years, I have stumbled upon some valuable lessons presented in a way that make a lot of sense to an educator who may be willing to take the challenge of teaching with unique and different approaches. At a recent reading conference, I have found that some resources have been fully developed that could help educators close some of the gaps that are presently predominant in the writing scores of children across the Carolinas. I would like to have the opportunity to empower our students to become better writers in all subject areas with the help of some step by step programs designed to build in significance to our students and incorporate all of the wonderful subjects they are learning about through interactive platforms. I have been a teacher for 8 years and have not come across anything as liberating as the resources I will be requesting. It would be our student's best interest to focus in on 2 areas second graders seem to be able to grasp the most- narrative and expository writing. Students would begin with writngs they are familiar with and have prior knowledge about, and proceed throughout the year learning and growing in the art of writing and language aquisition. The wonderful premesis of these resources are that they build on reading and content area and focus on the whole child. We would like to request your funding for the entire narrative and expository collections from Empowering Writers. It is such a fantastic feeling to see our students grow and succeed, not only through writing, but through all of their experiences. We would love for you to be a part of this insightful opportunity to help children become successful. Your consideration would be greatly appreciated.
