Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a diverse and vibrant group of 5th graders who are eager to learn and grow as readers. Many of my students come from various backgrounds, including English language learners and those who need extra support to reach grade-level proficiency. Reading is the foundation of all learning, and I am dedicated to giving my students the best literacy instruction possible to set them up for future success.

To improve my teaching and better serve my students, I am seeking funding to take The Reading Process (RICA) course, which is essential for my California teaching credential.

I need to complete this course to enhance my knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction, ensure I am fully prepared for the state's evolving literacy assessment requirements, and equip myself with the most effective strategies to support struggling readers. This course will be virtual and will provide me with the latest research-based strategies for teaching reading effectively, with new tools and dynamics that can be motivating for my students. By gaining a deeper understanding of phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development, I will be better equipped to meet the diverse needs of my classroom. Taking this course will allow me to implement proven literacy techniques, differentiate instruction to meet each student's unique learning style, and create a more engaging and supportive reading environment.
