My Project

I love my students for their creativity, resilience, and strong sense of community. They come from diverse backgrounds and face unique challenges, but they never fail to show up with curiosity and a desire to learn. Their enthusiasm for hands-on activities, where they can explore and experiment, makes teaching them a rewarding experience. My students are incredibly resourceful and mostly work well together, but they also benefit from opportunities that help continuously build their social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. The Squishy Circuits Group Kits will make a meaningful difference in their learning by combining STEM concepts with SEL development. Each kit contains conductive dough, LED lights, and batteries, which students use to build working electrical circuits. This hands-on, creative approach to learning allows them to grasp abstract concepts like electricity in a tangible, playful way. More importantly, working in groups will help them develop key SEL skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and perseverance.

As students collaborate to create circuits, they will need to listen to each other, share materials, and work through challenges—skills essential not just in STEM but in life.

My goal for this project is to foster a deeper understanding of both STEM and SEL. I want my students to see that learning can be fun and that mistakes are part of the process. I also hope to build their confidence as they work through challenges together, learning that their ideas and contributions matter.

What makes my students special is their connection to the Waianae community and their ability to rise above challenges. They are eager to learn and grow, and with these Squishy Circuits Group Kits, they will not only gain academic skills but also the social-emotional tools to thrive as individuals and as a community.
