This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All students are special and deserve a good education!

The unique group of students that I am serving are in great need, in high poverty, but eager to learn.

They struggle every day trying to overcome and receive their basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city and state. They are funny, sweet, and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk due to the high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness, and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates. They need extra attention and nurturing. They need you.

My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country.

My Project

Currently, I have one working desktop in my classroom. The Chromebook will be utilized during reading and math intervention, library and instructional centers. It will allow the students to work on their individual needs and levels. The students will be able to access Imagine Learning which is a program provided by the district to newcomers. It will also benefit students that have been in the country over a year with programs like I-Ready for reading and mathematics.

Technology at the hands of struggling students, imagine the possibilities!

In addition, this project will help students build self-confidence by increasing proficiency in the English language and consequently Reading and Language Arts, Mathematics and Science. This laptop will allow students to be able to attack the social-economic barriers that are tied to academic failure.
