Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the everyday lessons that you participated in as a child in school? Probably not. What you probably DO remember were captivating art pieces or other projects that you worked on and most likely presented to your classmates or to your grown-ups.

Our students come from all types of backgrounds and have all types of academic abilities in our ICT class.

We have 28 students - 12 of which are children with special needs. It's also comprised of students primarily in two grades - 2nd and 3rd. Even though we have such a mix in our class, it would be difficult, if not impossible, for an outsider to come in and know who are the students in a specific grade or who are those with an IEP - we hold our students to high standards and they work very hard to meet them. We also frequently talk of being part of a community - lessons you would see take fruit in the fact that our students will help each other with work, or console each other when upset. It's a wonderful environment to be a part of.

My Project

The resources we are requesting would be used next term during our humanities unit. We would like to continue our study of Grecian mythology and have the students use the art materials to create a piece to present to their peers - be it a recreation of the Parthenon, creating a self-portrait by using the mirrors, but modifying it to make themselves a god/goddess or hero/heroine, or create a book/play of a Greek myth that has been re-worked into a story that is fit to be read aloud in class. We would also be starting a few new non-fiction units in the new school year - we want to have a research unit based on the students' individual interests and the art materials would allow them the freedom to take on their topic however they see fit to present the information.

Please consider donating to this project.

Your donations would allow the very deserving students in our school to be able to learn more about the humanities, art, science and so many other things by allowing them to express themselves through different means. Learning isn't just about reading and writing. There are so many gifted students whose talents would go unnoticed if they never receive the chance to express themselves artistically. Please help us to give our students that opportunity
