This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Podcasts have emerged as one of the best ways to communicate and consume news and culture. It seems everybody has a podcast these days, so why not our students, who have so much to contribute with their wisdom and talents?

Our students are interested in reporting the news of their school, neighborhood, and city, and podcasts will make that work more accessible for more students.

We've newly started a Newspaper Club at our school, but the addition of having a second medium in which to report, will make the newspaper more accessible for students, in consuming the news, writing for the news, and communicating in their preferred language. They will be able to build confidence in their research skills, writing skills, and speaking skills in order to put out a product they will be proud to have others listen to. Additionally, they'll learn the technical skills necessary to record, edit, sound mix, and publish, which they will be able to expand as they get older and develop their interests.

Students are eager to have people listen to what they have to say about the world in which they live. We want to use this podcasting equipment to give volume and breadth to this eagerness. If podcasting is the future of media consumption, we envision our students as ideal contributors!
