Empowering SEL Growth Through Mentoring and Community Engagement

My Project

At JDHS, our mentoring curriculum is deeply rooted in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through our advisory program. This curriculum is designed not just to teach, but to inspire. By fostering supportive relationships, we guide students to develop leadership, emotional resilience, and a deep sense of community. Through SEL-based activities, students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, self-reflection, and empathy—qualities critical for their personal growth and success both in and beyond the classroom.

Our program also integrates student-led outreach initiatives, empowering students to actively contribute to their community, reinforcing responsibility, leadership, and the value of service.

Each item supports our SEL-based advisory program by creating an engaging and dynamic environment where students can thrive, connect, and lead.

Floor Number Stickers and Painter's Tape: These transform our classroom into an interactive game space for team-building activities. Structured, competitive challenges motivate students to collaborate, communicate, and practice problem-solving—skills that are essential for SEL development and strong mentoring relationships.

Lamps: Creating the right atmosphere is key to reflection. These lamps offer soft lighting that fosters a peaceful environment during journaling sessions, helping students connect with their thoughts and emotions, a vital part of emotional intelligence and mindfulness in our SEL program.

Backpacks: These empower students during their student-led outreach activities. Equipping them with backpacks for supplies instills organization, responsibility, and a sense of readiness, preparing them to step into leadership roles within the community.

Stickers: Small rewards go a long way. These stickers serve as tangible recognition of students' achievements, motivating participation and reinforcing positive behaviors that align with SEL principles.

Conversation Cards: These cards are a powerful tool for breaking the ice. They encourage students to engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering empathy, building relationships, and developing the communication skills essential to mentoring success and emotional growth.
